The Paso del Norte Group was established to improve the economic vibrancy and enhance the quality of life of this region. We believe that the Quality of Life Bond Issues will help to achieve those objectives. Therefore, it is important for us, as members of the Paso del Norte Group, to educate ourselves and those with whom we work and live regarding the many positive attributes of these bond issues.

Here is the full presentation that was made at our Members Meeting on August 28. It has been updated to provide answers to questions and clarifications regarding points raised by our members at or following that meeting. We will also place this presentation on The Paso del Norte Group web site and will continue to add information, as appropriate, to ensure that members and others who may access the site have timely and accurate information regarding the bond issues and related matters.

Progress in Ciudad Juarez

Paso del Norte Group Members - - Presentations at our recent Civic and Executive Committee meetings have highlighted the improvements underway in Ciudad Juarez. The City is moving ahead with many important projects that will improve the quality of life for the region. At the same time, crime rates are decreasing and the atmosphere in the city is improving. Two weeks ago I spent the entire day there, driving around Juarez with PDN member, Jesse Melendez, and could feel a much better atmosphere than a year or so ago.

Human capital development for a thriving border

A report done for the Paso del Norte region by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) recommends action by the community to develop a collaborative process; link regional business, industry and educational stakeholders; strive for educational excellence, and foster an environment where entrepreneurs may flourish. This represents a key factor to create the wealth necessary for a sustainable and growing economy.

OECD recommendations and efforts by the Paso del Norte Group’s Education Committee led to a partnership with Manpower International for the development of a supply-and-demand labor analysis and forecast for the region.

Cooperation among the region’s educational institutions, the private sector and governments requires unique and often creative solutions. The talent is here; the roadmap is ready.
