Paso del Norte Group Members - - As you are no doubt aware, many military retirees have chosen El Paso as their retirement destination - - even though it has received little or no recognition in national publications. Therefore, the Paso del Norte Group’s Retirement Committee members believe that, with proper publicity and recognition, the positive economic impact of more military retirees choosing El Paso can be substantial.

From April 26 through May 1 the Retirement Committee will play host to Bert and Gretchen Sperling. Mr. Sperling is the CEO of Sperling’s Best Places, a company that ranks cities all ofver the United States for many organizations and groups on the basis of various factors and criteria. The “Best Places” organization came to our attention as the result of an article in USAA magazine that rated Waco, TX, 50 miles from Ft. Hood, as the best city for military retirees - - and made no mention of El Paso among the top ten cities for military retirees. Mr. Sperling expressed a willingness to become better informed about why we think El Paso may be the very best place in the United States for military retirees; so, he will soon be spending five days in our region.

As we encouraged him to visit this region, we sent him the following summary of the attributes that your Retirement Committee believes should rank El Paso at or near the top of any list for military retirees. Many of these factors would apply to any retiree.
